Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter, room temperature
  • 8 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

In the bowl of a standing mixer, cream softened butter and add 4 cups sugar, milk, and vanilla. Beat with paddle attachment until smooth and gradually add the rest of sugar to reach frosting consistency.

I made this recipe but it turned out gritty and all I tasted was the confectioners sugar. What did I do wrong?

i made christmas cookies and follow this to the t, now i have so much i am going to make a cake to use the balance, it very good, ps i used unsalted butter.
