Fried Green Tomatoes 6 Ways

By

Fried green tomatoes are a Southern classic—tart, un-ripened tomatoes coated in a cornmeal batter and deep-fried. If you haven’t tried them, you’ve got to add them to your to-taste list—we think you’re really going to like them.

Down South, you’ll often find them in the appetizer section of many restaurant menus, but if you go into a Southern cook’s kitchen, you’ll find they’re much more versatile than that. They work as a side dish, on a sandwich, in a salad, and about a million other ways. We figured we’d celebrate this acclaimed Southern recipe by sharing six ways to enjoy them, including a healthier oven-fried version for those of you avoiding the deep fryer.

So whether you enjoy them on a burger, in your brunch, or all by themselves, we hope you’ll start incorporating this Southern dish a bit more often. Happy eating!

Do you have a good Aioli sauce to make for the Fried Green Tomatoes? Thank you Paula.

I'm excited to try the oven fried green tomatoes. I always have lots of green tomatoes still on the vine at the end of the growing season when things are starting to get colder, so I try to make green tomato relish, etc. I like them fried, but it makes such a greasy mess, so I'm looking forward to the oven ones. Thanks. Verna Hainer
