Hoppin’ John

By Paula Deen

JUMP TO RECIPE

Difficulty: Easy

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Servings: 10

Ingredients

  • fresh parsley
  • Paula Deen's House Seasoning
  • to taste garlic powder
  • 2 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small chopped onion
  • 1 small chopped red bell pepper
  • 2 cups cooked black eyed peas
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Directions

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic powder, to taste, and cook for 5 minutes. Add peas and rice and cook an additional 10 to 15 minutes. Be careful not to overcook; this dish is best if the bell pepper and onion still have a crunch to them. Add House Seasoning, to taste. Garnish each serving with sprig of parsley.

I am trying to find one of your recipes for hoppin john. The dish included tomatoes, collard greens, smoked turkey, onions and that's all I can remember, except that it was cooked in a crockpot. It smelled great and tasted even better. Can you help please?
