Ingredients
Buttered Rum Batter
- ⅔ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Hot Buttered Rum
- ⅔ cup hot water
- 2 tablespoons buttered rum batter, plus more to taste
- 2 ounces dark rum
- whipped cream
- freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
Directions
Buttered Rum Batter
Over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, honey, and spices in a small saucepan, stirring until everything is melted and smooth, approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat before stirring in the vanilla.
Hot Buttered Rum
Pour hot water and batter into a mug, using more batter if you like your drink on the sweeter side. Stir until well combined.
Stir in as much rum as you like, and adjust the ratio of batter to water to rum to suit your tastes.
Top with whipped cream and garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
